Iso Cab
Literal speaker sim/amp in a box
The Iso Cab is a literal speaker simulator/amp in a box pedal utilizing the popular DIY 386 power amp chip found in some of your favorite pedals and practice amps. The 386 power amp is connected to a 4" Full Range speaker which then gets amplified by a small electret condenser microphone.
Check out the blog post HERE for a further deep dive into the origins and features of the pedal.
9vDC Center Positive OR Center Negative reverse polarity protection circuitry
Soft touch true bypass switching
4” Full Range speaker delivers nice Bass response
Electret Condenser Microphone
Extra Gain stage after Mic Pre Amp to push mic signal into further saturation
Highly interactive 3-band EQ
Controls:
Mic Vol - Controls output volume from the Mic Preamp circuit (signal Microphone is picking up from speaker)
Post Gain - Controls gain after the Mic Pre amp circuit for extra crunch
3-Band EQ - Hi, Mid, Lo controls the frequency of each band
Master Vol - Controls overall output of entire pedal
Suggested Pairings:
The Iso Cab works great with drum machines to bring dull samples to life, as well as using it within a DAW to give vocals and VST synths a great distorted tone as outboard gear. Open the back of the pedal and use it as a practice amp (no need to use the pedal's output jack for this), or send anything to the pedal and mic the speaker with your own Microphones and get creative! Keep in mind if you are plugging in and using the internal speaker as a practice amp or mic'ing it yourself, the external controls won't do anything.
